Pilot on Dementia
Our pilot aims to address this challenge by employing three types of assessments: self-reports, behavioral observation, and physiological responses measured through ECG signals.
Pain assessment in dementia patients is a major challenge due to communication impairments, leading to underdiagnosis and reliance on pharmacological treatments with limited long-term safety data. The European Dementia Strategy calls for non-pharmacological methods and accurate assessment tools. However, current systems are fragmented and lack standardization or integration across digital health platforms.
Our pilot addresses this by using the Regional Smart Health Data Space (RSHDS) to collect, structure, and integrate real-world pain assessment data within a secure, interoperable digital health ecosystem. It tests the VELES architecture’s ability to manage complex, multimodal data while ensuring semantic harmonization and data privacy.
The pilot demonstrates how standardized, real-time data sharing enhances personalized care, supports AI-driven decision tools, enables cross-border collaboration, and aligns with EU data ethics. Ultimately, it advances VELES’ mission to create a sustainable, interoperable digital health infrastructure across Europe.
